About Gate 2023 –

Gate 2023 Registeration Started, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts. GATE 2023 will be a computer-based test (CBT) which is being organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The exam will be conducted by IISc Bangalore and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee), on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI).


Qualified GATE score can be used for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to : (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts; and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies. GATE score is also used by some colleges and institutions for giving admission to students without MoE scholarship/assistantship. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process

Before starting the application process, the candidate must ensure that he/she meets the educational eligibility criteria of GATE 2023.
A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2023 exam.
Some of the Professional Societies/Institutions, which conduct examination in various fields of engineering, are as follows.

  • The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
  • The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
  • The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
  • The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChemE)
  • The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
  • The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)

However, the candidates who possess certification from any of the professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MoE/ AICTE/ UGC/ UPSC as equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Planning., etc*.

Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Arts/ Commerce.

Details of eligibility criteria are given in below. However, any candidate fulfilling the above-mentioned criteria is eligible to appear for GATE 2023.

Note 1 : If a candidate is pursuing any higher degree or has already obtained a degree higher than that mentioned in the Table below the candidate will be allowed to appear for GATE 2023 examination.
Note 2 : The candidates with B.Sc./ B.A./ B.Com. degrees (3-year program) desirous to seek admission for masters programs in IITs may refer to JAM-2023 Examination.

Negative Marking
For a wrong answer chosen in a MCQ, there will be negative marking.
For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
Likewise, For 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
No negative marking for Incorrect answer(s) to MSQ or NAT question

Gate 2023 Application Process

GATE 2023 application process is live now; candidates must register in the GOAPS portal. The registration process is started on 30 August 2022. Candidates must note that GATE registration is accepted online only through the GOAPS portal or official website.

How to register for gate 2023?

  • Visit GOAPS’s official site and register. – Register Now
  • Once registration is completed, candidates need to open a window for GATE Login.
  • Fill up the GATE application form.
  • Upload the required documents, like photographs and signatures.
  • Make the payment of GATE exam fees.
  • Click on the submit button.

Documents Required For GATE 2023 Registeration (Indian Candidates)

Here is the list of documents and information required to fill out the application form for the GATE exam 2023:

  • Your name, your date of birth, your mobile number, your parent’s name, your parent’s mobile number.
  • Residential Address for Communication with an area PIN code.
  • Degree scanned with a size under 10-300 kb in pdf format (upload only one page of anyone document)
  • For Engineering Degree course completion certificate/provisional certificate/8th Semester mark sheet/7th-semester mark sheet/6th-semester mark sheet/Pre or final year mark sheet in case of integrated degree/AMIE and Completed one section/Provisional Certificate Letter.
  • For Science Degree course completion certificate/provisional certificate/4th Semester mark sheet/3rd-semester mark sheet/2nd-semester mark sheet/1st-year mark sheet/Pre-final year mark sheet in case of integrated degree/Provisional Certificate Letter.
  • College address with a PIN code
  • Choice of GATE exam cities
  • Scanned image of the thumb impression of size 2-150 kb in jpeg/jpg
  • Scanned image of your photograph of size 5-200 kb in jpeg/jpg
  • Scanned image of your signature of size 5-150 kb in jpeg/jpg
  • Scanned copy of Category/PwD Certificate (if applicable) in size 10-300 kb in pdf
